GRANTS & FELLOWSHIPS

International:

SRI International Training Grant: 5 awards for $5,000 each- Provides an opportunity for international trainees (non-US citizens or green card holders) to obtain 6-8 weeks of research experience at an institution outside of their home country.

EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowships- Support excellent postdoctoral researchers in Europe and the world for up to 2 years. EMBO provides grants for host institutions in EMBC Member States to issue employment contracts to fellows- fellows working in other countries will receive a stipend. 5 additional EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowships are provided for those applying to work in the following European countries: Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovenia and Turkey

Lalor Foundation Fellowship, $55,000/yr. – Highly regarded Reproductive Biology Postdoc Fellowship that covers fellowship stipends, fringes and institutional overhead, option for a one-year renewal, open to citizens of all countries.

Life Sciences Research Foundation (LSRF) Award- The LSRF Award provides three (3) years of support to a postdoctoral researcher at a non-profit university or research institution. The award is paid to the university/research institution where the researcher is carrying out their project and is solely for the benefit of the awarded researcher. The total amount (effective August 2023) is $231,000 ($77,000/yr.) and the awardee’s salary/stipend total is $198,000 ($66,000/yr.) and a research allowance of $33,000 ($11,000/yr.). LSRF is typically able to make between 18-27 awards annually, depending on fundraising efforts of that year.

European Commission- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA): The MSCA is the EU’s flagship for funding doctoral education and postdoctoral training programmes, developing talents and advancing research. Find calls for funding opportunities in all of the MSCA actions via the link above.

Research in Germany/Federal Ministry of Education and Research: Germany is a top destination for PhD students, postdocs and senior scientists. There are various organizations in Germany that fund research projects and individual researchers, so please visit the Research in Germany website for a compiled list of funding opportunities.

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW): The Academy is the forum, the voice and the conscience of science in the Netherlands. It’s activities are based on the conviction that knowledge and creativity are the most important ingredients for well-being and prosperity. Multiples funds and prizes available.

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI): The UK Research and Innovation organization invests in research and innovation to enrich lives, drive economic growth, and create jobs and high-quality public services across the UK. UKRI’s funding finder compiles a list of funding opportunities available that can be filtered by topic, funding type and deadline.

 

North America:

Offers grants for all levels, pre/postdoc, Junior and senior Faculty. Grant opportunities are organized by due date and are further broken down into investigator-initiated research, topic-focused funding, data science grants and an AHA Registry Research opportunities.

Burroughs Wellcome Fund: Supports students, teachers, scientists and institutions. The Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s grantmaking strategies support biomedical scientists throughout their careers.

Endocrine Society: The Endocrine Society offers about 15 award programs to further support the dedication to excellence in research, education and clinical practice in endocrinology. Apply today or nominate a worthy colleague to win awards recognizing researchers, clinicians, early career professionals, medical students and entrepreneurs.

March of Dimes: The four March of Dimes research grant mechanisms move along a seniority and experience spectrum, with in-training investigators receiving the PSDP (Pediatric Scientist Development Program) or RSDP (Reproductive Scientist Development Program) grants. Next, early career investigators receive the Basil O’Connor Starter Scholar Research Award, while established career scientists receive the Discovery Grants. To complement these research grants, the Agnes Higgins Award and the March of Dimes and Richard B. Johnston, Jr., MD Prize in Developmental Biology recognize lifetime achievements in nutrition and maternal fetal health research, respectively. 

National Science Foundation (NSF): The US National Science Foundation offers hundreds of funding opportunities- including grants, cooperative agreements and fellowships- that support research and education across science and engineering among all career levels and experiences.

NIH Individual Fellowships (F) Kiosk: Provides individual research training opportunities (including international) to trainees at the undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral level. Multiple opportunities available.

Reproductive Scientist Development Program (RSDP)- Provides training opportunities for obstetrician-gynecologists committed to academic investigative careers in fundamental biomedical sciences. Must be a US citizen, noncitizen national or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence and possess an Alien Registration Receipt Card or other verification of legal admission as a permanent citizen at the time of the award.

Oceania:

Heart Foundation Australia: Seeks to improve heart disease prevention, detection and support for all Australians. Multiple research funding opportunities available.
